Wij zijn Amsterdam is een alliantie bestaande uit het Amsterdam Museum, Stichting in mijn buurt, EducatieStudio / Musea Bekennen Kleur, Amerpodia, Studio Durian [Lara Nuberg & Ardjuna Candotti].
Begin 2021 dienden zij bij de Gemeente Amsterdam een plan in om onderzoek te doen naar wie en wat Amsterdammers willen herdenken. Het doel van dit onderzoek zou zijn om het huidige herdenkings- en herinneringslandschap inclusiever te maken en om daarmee de gelaagde geschiedenis van Amsterdam zichtbaar te maken.
We vroegen 82 Amsterdammers over hun visie op herdenken. Wat missen zij nu? Waarom? Wat vinden zij het belang van herdenken? Welke verhalen willen zij zelf doorgeven? Hun antwoorden waren persoonlijk, divers en uniek.

In early 2021, they submitted a plan to the City of Amsterdam to conduct research into who and what Amsterdammers want to commemorate. The goal of this research would be to make the current landscape of commemoration and remembrance more inclusive and, in doing so, make Amsterdam's layered history visible.
We asked 82 Amsterdammers about their vision of commemoration. What are they missing now? Why? What do they think is the importance of commemoration? What stories do they themselves want to pass on? Their answers were personal, diverse and unique.
